Why hair and makeup is important

For most boudoir babes, walking in the door is the most nerve-wracking part. After you are welcomed into the location and you get to put your bags down, the first part of the boudoir experience is getting glammed up with professional hair and makeup provided on-site. We will talk about what your style preferences are and chat about your choices again. For the first hour you get to relax during hair and makeup. I love having this option on-site so you get to just be in the space for a while. It would be a little weird to walk into the location and jump right into shooting! Your time in the hair and makeup chair is relaxing and allows us to get to know each other a little bit better before your boudoir session.

There is a lot of preparation that goes into a boudoir session. Having hair and makeup as a part of your session means you have one thing less to worry about. Show up, get pampered! You deserve to have a little bit of luxury in your life and this is going to be just the first of many confidence boosts that you will experience throughout your boudoir session.

Here is the big one: camera makeup and real-life makeup are not exactly the same! I work with professionals who have trained skills for making sure your makeup looks flawless on camera. They know how I shoot as a boudoir photographer and adjust for that. Having a hair and makeup artist take care of your hair and makeup helps ensure success in our boudoir session!

Why should I book a boudoir session?

When was the last time you did something for you? When was the last time you took the time to get pampered and felt confident and sexy? Sometimes we forget what it is like to feel this way. We get stuck in day to day life... kids.. work...and trying to be "perfect". We forget to stop and embrace where we are and who we are. You are amazing right now! There is not time like the present to do this for yourself. Your future self will thank you!

What will I wear?

Whatever you want!! It doesn't need to be lingerie. Grab a cute bra and underwear set, oversized sweater, mens button down shirt, jersey, robe, bathing suit or dress. Accessories can include heels, boots, pearls, leather jackets, jewelry, garters, fishnets, or leg warmers. There is no right or wrong amount of clothing. At your pre-consultation we can discuss outfit options and getting the most out of your shoot. I want you to feel comfortable, but I also want to push you out of your comfort zone a little bit, so that you can unleash your inner goddess! BUT- I promise that you will never feel uncomfortable doing this! You are in control. I am just here to encourage you and to make you see how amazing you are!!

What should I expect from the pre-consultation?

We will discuss many things during your pre-consultation. I want to hear all about why you have decided to do this for yourself- because let's be honest, even if we are giving these pictures or creating an album to give to someone else, we are still getting way more out of a shoot! We will work on planning your outfit choices and preparing you for your shoot. I want to hear your thoughts, questions and what you want to get out of your shoot besides amazing pictures. What I have found to be the most helpful is creating a Pinterest board for some inspiration that we can both create together. "Sexy" has many looks. There is a difference between "Jennifer Aniston sexy" and "Kim Kardashian sexy". Many of us have areas of our body that we are self conscious of and there are many ways that we can eliminate these hesitations that come up when thinking about boudoir photography. This is why preparing and planning for your big day is important. If you have hesitations; between wardrobe choices and posing we can ease these concerns. There are many types of wardrobe choices and we will work together to find the most flattering for you. 3 outfits are usually suggested. One of which is a little out of your comfort zone for if you are feeling up to it, but like I said; you are in control.

How should I prepare for my shoot?

Boudoir is an investment and just like a wedding; it's all in the details.

• A week or so before your shoot you are going to want to color your hair to get rid of pesky root colors, but far enough out where any dye marks aren't seen on the scalp or face.
• Waxing should be done days prior so areas will not be red and swollen.
• Go for a mani/pedi. Nails are vital in boudoir. Chipped nails can be an eyesore. Red, hot pink or black nails make a statement. Light pink creates a dreamy and elegant look. A French manicure or subtle nudes are always classy and match with every outfit change. Gel nails are glossy and they resist chipping well. Press ons are an option too just bring some glue to the set just in case! And don't forget to paint your toes!
• Bring extras! The last thing you want is to have a rip in your stockings the day of your shoot, lose a nail if you choose press ons, or want to replace your favorite lipstick that you chose to use from home. Extra clothing items and props are welcome too. It's better to have more and not use it than to be without.
• Try on your outfits prior to your shoot. See how you feel in them. Look at how they fit you. This gives you ample time to find other outfits you may like better. Maybe it's time to go shopping and treat yourself to some things that make you feel confident and sexy.
• Wear loose clothing thats comfortable to the shoot. Skip the bra and tight clothing; anything that leaves impressions on your skin leave it at home. Remember, it's all in the details.
• Avoiding booking your shoot around "that" week of the month. No one wants to feel bloated or crampy while trying to bring out their sexy side.
• Drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol and salt for a few days prior to your shoot.
• Don't fake tan. No sprays or lotions. Sexy pumpkins are only a thing for Halloween! If you want to add some color to your skin opt for a few tanning sessions in the nude to avoid tan lines and make the last one a few days before your shoot so that you are not red or burnt.
• Come to the shoot with clean and dry hair.

What should I expect from my shoot?

Upon entering the location you will be greeted my myself and staff on set that day. You will then go to hair and makeup for about an hour and a half to get glammed up. Then you will be ready to start your shoot!! We will have music playing and the atmosphere is light and fun! We will laugh and joke! I will show you the back of my camera along the way to show you just how amazing you are doing and look too! I will pose you head to fingertips, so don't worry if you feel like you don't know how to "be sexy" or that you may not have any experience in posing. I photograph REAL women just like you and me. With good wardrobe choices, being prepared, professional hair and makeup and my experience, your photos will be amazing- stunning---captivating! And it's ok to be nervous- totally normal. We will do everything we can to prepare you for your shoot and make you feel as comfortable as possible. So, relax and enjoy the ride!

What happens at the reveal?

At your reveal we will sit and I will get to show you all your amazing pictures! We will sort through your favorites and choose prints, digital images and/or photos to include in your album or wall art.
